Corn chips and dips have a best friend, and it’s called Mexi-Can Cerveza!
TWØBAYS founder and CEO, Richard Jeffares says, “I get sick of hearing I can't have that because it’s got gluten in it, so I asked the brewers to create a gluten free Mexican style Cerveza. Now I can have one too!”.
And just like corn chips, there’s a good dose of corn in this brew too. This Mexican style lager is cool, crisp and easy drinking.
Until now, there has not been a gluten free cerveza in Australia. Many people think that some mainstream cervezas (you know the ones that come in clear glass bottles) are gluten free because they are brewed with some corn, but they still use barley as the bulk of the grain bill, so are definitely not gluten free. Gluten free beer cannot be made from barley. We’ve brewed ours with malted yellow corn and millet, to deliver that traditional Mexican style cerveza taste - light, low bitterness and very refreshing.
Now you CAN have a Cerveza, even if you are avoiding gluten.
Why do people serve cerveza with a wedge of lime?
There’s a couple of reasons people think this trend started. One of the most common theories is it was to stop flies getting into your bottle. But more probable is the fact cervezas are commonly packed in clear glass bottles, leaving them vulnerable to off flavours - the lime was added to cover up “skunked” beer. Thankfully, we have packed ours in cans, so no light struck off flavours here - just pure refreshing gluten free beer, the way our brewers intended.
Brewed for warm summers evenings
Best served cold and with good friends, this beer style is made for warm summers evenings, watching the sun go down. And once the sun sets – It might be time for a gluten free cerveza cocktails!
Gluten Free Michelada
Michelada is a popular Mexican beer cocktail. Similar to a Bloody Mary, featuring tomato juice, beer, spices, and hot sauce, but instead of vodka, this cocktail uses Mexican style Cerveza.
It’s a spicy and refreshing drink, often touted as a hangover cure, served with brunch, but we reckon it’s just as good after sun set.
