Nothing comes before beer
Toriaezu, biiru! (First and foremost, a beer!), is the common shout heard when guests enter a Japanese barbeque or bar, because nothing should come before a beer!
Rice has been a staple ingredient in Japanese brewing for millennia, giving beers a lighter colour, taste and body, making them refreshing with low bitterness. Despite their name, most rice lagers are brewed with mainly barley, but with the addition of some rice. More on that in our blog "Are Rice Lagers Gluten Free?"
We’ve brewed ours with a combination of malted millets, malted rice and raw rice to ensure it is naturally gluten free, with a light body and taste, and super easy drinking. Lightly hopped, this ultra dry, super crisp lager is an easy drinker that will keep you coming back for more and won’t leave you feeling bloated so you can enjoy your food too.
A refreshing post workout brew?
If you are looking to reduce your carbs and calories, but don’t want to miss out on a post work out brew, TWØBAYS Japanese Rice Lager might just be the beer for you. Naturally gluten free and only 1 g carbohydrate per 100 mL, you can avoid the bloat and the carbs while enjoying a refreshing and well-deserved post workout beer.
Full size serve, full strength, but without the carbs.
There’s no doubt that alcohol is the biggest contributor to calories / kJ in most beers, so brewers have been working hard to craft beers that are lighter in calories for the occasions where you feel like having a lighter beer. To ensure a lower energy value per serve, some brewers look to reduce the alcohol content, or simply reduce the serve size of your beer. Our brewers have fermented out the sugars in this beer almost entirely, for a dry, crisp finish and leaving only 1 g of carbs per 100 mL, meaning we can serve you a full strength (4.2% abv), full size (375 mL) beer, but still keeping the calorie count down.
3.8g Carbs, 108 Cal per 375 mL can.
TWØBAYS Japanese Rice Lager is lower in carbohydrate, lower calorie and lower in bitterness. This easy drinking, full strength beer is a perfect thirst quencher for the carb conscious beer lover.
Rice malts or rice syrup?
Like all TWØBAYS beers, we brew this beer from grains, not syrups. This gives us the edge when it comes to brewing a wide variety of beers and ensuring the best flavours, more closely aligned to barley brewed beers. We've combined malted rice and millet, along with raw rice to keep the body and taste light and refreshing.
How does it compare to other gluten free alcohol?
When choosing an alcoholic beverage, understanding the caloric and kilojoule (kJ) content can help you make more informed decisions, especially if you are watching your intake. We asked an AI chatbot to compare the energy content of different alcoholic beverages:
Beer typically ranges from 100 to 150 kcal (450 to 663 kJ) per 375 ml serving, with lower alcohol and low-carb options on the lower end. TWØBAYS Japanese Rice Lager is 450kJ per 375mL serve.
Wine has a similar caloric content per 150 ml serving, with most varieties around 120-125 kcal (502-523 kJ).
Spirits tend to be around 97-110 kcal (406-460 kJ) per 45 ml serving, but can add up quickly in cocktails.
Cocktails often have the highest energy content, ranging from 200 to 400 kcal (837 to 1674 kJ) per serving, depending on the ingredients used.
So if it’s easy drinking refreshment with lower-calories and carbs you are looking for, TWØBAYS low carb, gluten-free Japanese Rice Lager may just be the beer to fill that space in your fridge!
Kanpai! (Cheers!)
