Three-peat for TWØBAYS at the Australian Independent Beer Awards

It was another bumper night of medals for TWØBAYS and GFB beers at the Indies, held in Perth WA on Friday 2 August 2024.  With seven beers entered and seven medals won, the brew team were once again celebrating some well deserved recognition for their quality and consistency.

Highlight of the night fell to TWØBAYS Session Ale winning an Indies Gold Medal for the 3rd year running, and off the back of the World Beer Cup win earlier this year, it is a true testament to the consistent quality the TWØBAYS brewers are producing.

Every beer entered picked up a medal with one gold, three silvers and three bronzes:

GOLD: TWØBAYS Session Ale

SILVER: TWØBAYS Lager

SILVER: GFB Draught

SILVER: TWØBAYS Pacific Ale (keg only)

BRONZE: TWØBAYS IPA

BRONZE: TWØBAYS Pale Ale

BRONZE: GFB Aussie Ale

How are beers judged?

Gluten free beers fall into the “Specialty Beer” category, judged against prescribed quality criteria for the particular beer style, including aroma, taste and how well the beer presents in a glass (clarity, head retention etc). Points are deducted for anything that doesn’t exactly match the style guide. For a beer to win Gold it needs to be almost faultless in they eyes (and taste buds) of the judging panel. Even a bronze medal is a tough task, where minor deviations are acceptable but still closely matching the style guide.
